ASTM D5823 Laboratory Testing Reference

Summary

ASTM D5823 is a laboratory test method used to determine pile height, commonly referred to as tuft height, and tuft length in tufted textile floor coverings. The procedure measures carpet construction characteristics rather than performance properties. Results may be used to verify product specifications, compare manufacturing lots, evaluate construction consistency, and assist in investigations involving alleged pile-height variation. Laboratory findings should be interpreted together with other carpet construction measurements and do not independently establish manufacturing defect, warranty responsibility, or field performance.
