Summary
Taber Abrasion testing evaluates the resistance of flooring surfaces to progressive wear under controlled laboratory conditions. The test is commonly used to assess the durability of resilient flooring, laminate flooring, surface coatings, carpet tiles, and other floor-covering materials. ASTM D4060 is widely used for resilient flooring, laminate flooring, and coatings, while ASTM D3884 is commonly used for carpet tiles and textile floor coverings. The test uses rotating abrasive wheels applied under controlled loads to simulate wear and measure relative abrasion resistance. Results are comparative laboratory measurements and are not intended to predict exact field service life.
