Summary

ASTM F3781 is a laboratory test used to evaluate the fracture resistance of profiled locking systems used in resilient plank flooring products such as LVT, SPC, WPC, and rigid-core flooring. The procedure measures the amount of force required to fracture the tongue, groove, locking ledge, corner, or other mechanical locking components when subjected to a controlled vertical load. Results provide comparative information regarding profile toughness and resistance to breakage under laboratory conditions. ASTM F3781 may assist in evaluating complaints involving broken locking profiles, fractured edges, corner damage, or profile brittleness. The procedure evaluates vertical fracture resistance only and does not independently evaluate installation quality, subfloor flatness, rolling-load performance, environmental exposure, product design suitability, or long-term field durability.
