ASTM D1335 Tuft Bind Test (Carpet)
Floor Detective® Laboratory Testing Reference
Summary
ASTM D1335 is a laboratory test method used to determine the tuft bind strength of tufted carpet constructions. Tuft bind measures the force required to pull a tuft or loop from the carpet backing system and is commonly used to evaluate carpet construction integrity, tuft retention characteristics, and resistance to tuft loss. The procedure is applicable to both loop pile and cut pile carpet constructions using construction-specific test methods. Results provide comparative information regarding tuft retention performance under controlled laboratory conditions and may assist in evaluating claims involving tuft loss, fuzzing, loop pullout, zippering, or construction concerns. Laboratory results do not independently establish manufacturing defect, warranty responsibility, or field causation.
