ISO 4918 Castor Chair Test (Resilient, Laminate & Textile Floorcoverings)
Floor Detective® Laboratory Testing Reference
Summary
ISO 4918 is a laboratory test used to evaluate the resistance of floorcovering materials to damage caused by repeated rolling office-chair loads under controlled conditions. The procedure simulates long-term chair movement using standardized castors, loads, travel paths, and test cycles. ISO 4918 is commonly used for resilient flooring, laminate flooring, and textile floorcoverings to assess performance under rolling-chair exposure. Results provide comparative information regarding a product’s response to repeated rolling loads and typically document the condition of the specimen following testing. The test evaluates chair-castor resistance under laboratory conditions only and does not independently predict field performance, installation quality, maintenance conditions, substrate support, or actual service life.
