Tile DCOF Slip Resistance Test
Tile DCOF Slip Resistance Test
Floor Detective® Laboratory Testing Reference
Summary
The Tile DCOF Slip Resistance Test is a laboratory and field evaluation method used to measure the dynamic coefficient of friction of tile surfaces under controlled conditions. DCOF testing is commonly associated with wet pedestrian traction evaluation for ceramic and porcelain tile surfaces and is frequently referenced in discussions involving slip resistance, polished finishes, wet-area performance, and walkway safety. The test evaluates the relative frictional characteristics of a surface during movement rather than static standing conditions. DCOF testing does not independently determine whether a floor is “safe” or “unsafe,” nor does it predict all real-world slip-and-fall conditions. Interpretation requires consideration of footwear, contaminants, slope, surface texture, maintenance, environmental exposure, pedestrian behavior, and overall site conditions.
