Seam Overlap (Carpet)

Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide

Summary

Seam overlap is an installation-origin condition that occurs when one trimmed carpet edge rides over the opposing edge during seam assembly rather than meeting edge-to-edge. The overlap creates a raised or bulky seam profile that disrupts surface continuity and may produce visible seam irregularity under normal lighting conditions. The condition develops during seam construction and remains confined to the seam line rather than developing from traffic, maintenance, or environmental exposure. Seam overlap affects seam appearance and localized texture but does not independently indicate manufacturing defect or material nonconformance. See also Seam Peaking, Dark or Light Line at the Seam, and Carpet Problems for broader context.
