Summary
A missing row is a manufacturing-related tufting condition in which yarn is absent from one or more needle positions during carpet production. The condition occurs when yarn feed is interrupted due to yarn breakage, yarn pullout, or needle malfunction during the tufting process (the stage where yarn is stitched into the primary backing). Missing rows follow the machine direction (the length direction of the carpet as it is manufactured and rolled). The condition originates during manufacturing and is not caused by installation, use, or maintenance. In many cases, the issue is detected and corrected during production through mending.
