Latex Weight Test (Carpet)

Floor Detective® Laboratory Testing Reference

Summary

Latex Weight Test is a proprietary laboratory procedure used to estimate the amount of latex applied to a carpet backing during manufacturing. Results are commonly used for construction verification, manufacturing comparisons, quality-control evaluations, and selected claims investigations involving backing performance or delamination concerns. The evaluation uses laboratory measurements together with construction data to estimate latex application rather than directly measuring latex alone. Laboratory findings should be interpreted together with carpet construction, delamination testing, tuft bind, backing performance, manufacturing specifications, and field observations. See also ASTM D3936 Delamination Strength of Secondary Backing, ASTM D5848 Pile Weight / Face Weight Test, and Flooring Laboratory Testing and Analysis.
