Gloss Variation (Laminate Flooring)
Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide
Summary
Gloss variation in laminate flooring is a visible difference in surface sheen, reflectivity, or light interaction between planks or across an installed floor. Laminate surfaces reflect light based on overlay composition, embossing profile, surface texture, viewing angle, and lighting orientation, and even minor differences may become visually pronounced under directional or low-angle lighting conditions. Perception is commonly influenced by room geometry, plank orientation, observer position, maintenance history, and environmental lighting characteristics. Variation may originate from production differences, installation sequencing, selective replacement, surface residue, progressive in-service wear, or material originating from different production lots or manufacturing periods. In most cases, gloss variation is an appearance-related condition and does not indicate structural or performance failure of the laminate flooring system. Evaluation considers distribution pattern, lighting influence, lot information, surface condition, and viewing environment together before origin is determined. See also Color Lot Variation, Discolorations, and Laminate Problems for broader context.
