Off-Register (Laminate Flooring)
Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide
Summary
Off-register in laminate flooring refers to misalignment between the printed decorative image and the surface texture pressed into the plank. Many modern laminate products use emboss-in-register technology to align wood-grain texture with printed knots, grain lines, and other visual features. When that alignment shifts, the texture may appear disconnected from the printed image, creating an unnatural or mismatched appearance. Off-register is a manufacturing alignment condition and is not caused by installation, maintenance, subfloor conditions, or site environment. Minor visual offset may fall within normal production tolerance depending on product design, texture depth, décor complexity, and manufacturer intent. Proper interpretation requires correlation of repeatability, distribution pattern, visibility, and comparison with representative material before conclusions are reached.
