Edge Damage and Chipping (Laminate Flooring)
Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide
Summary
Edge damage and chipping in laminate flooring involve fracture, breakage, or material loss along plank edges, corners, bevels, or locking profiles. The condition may develop during handling, installation, moisture exposure, structural deflection, rolling-load stress, or in-service impact events. Chipping commonly appears lighter in color due to fracture of the decorative layer or exposure of the underlying HDF core. Once edge integrity is compromised, joint stability may weaken and deterioration may progressively worsen under continued loading or environmental exposure. Proper classification requires correlation of distribution pattern, loading conditions, moisture influence, structural support, and overall flooring-system behavior before origin is determined. See also Bubbling or Swelled Edges, Expansion Restriction / Pinning, and Laminate Problems for broader context.
