Summary
Indent fracturing is a tile damage condition in which concentrated loading causes internal cracking within the tile body due to incomplete support beneath the tile. The fracture commonly begins below the visible surface where stress becomes concentrated at unsupported areas, mortar voids, or weak support locations beneath the tile assembly. Surface cracking may appear later as the internal fracture progresses upward through the tile during continued loading or service exposure. The condition is most commonly associated with localized loading combined with inadequate mortar support rather than an isolated manufacturing defect in the tile itself. Proper evaluation focuses on support continuity, mortar coverage, load exposure, fracture characteristics, and overall installation conditions before conclusions are formed.
