Summary

Finish damage in laminate flooring involves alteration of the transparent wear surface that protects the decorative layer. Most laminate products use a melamine-based overlay, often enhanced with aluminum oxide to improve abrasion resistance. Surface change may appear as scratching, dulling, scuffing, hazing, blistering, peeling-like separation, or localized loss of clarity. Damage may develop progressively from repeated abrasion and load cycling or occur abruptly from concentrated stress.
