Efflorescence-Like Mineral Migration at LVT/SPC Joints (Resilient Flooring)
Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide
Summary
Efflorescence-like mineral migration is a moisture-related substrate condition in which soluble minerals from a concrete slab become visible at resilient flooring joints after installation. The condition is associated with moisture movement within the concrete and is commonly observed beneath low-permeability resilient flooring systems installed over concrete substrates. As moisture migrates upward through the slab, dissolved minerals may become concentrated and visible at joints, edges, seams, cracks, or other discontinuities where moisture vapor or liquid moisture escapes more readily. The residue typically appears white, chalky, powder-like, or crystalline and may temporarily diminish after cleaning before reappearing as moisture activity continues. The condition reflects substrate moisture behavior rather than a defect in the flooring material itself. Proper evaluation requires correlation of moisture conditions, distribution pattern, slab behavior, and installation context rather than appearance alone.
