Discoloration (Laminate)
Discoloration (Laminate Flooring)
Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide
Summary
Discoloration in laminate flooring is a visible change in color, tone, shading, or visual uniformity compared to the original manufactured appearance. The condition may involve fading, darkening, staining, hazing, or alteration of surface reflectance rather than structural failure of the laminate plank itself. Color change may develop gradually through environmental exposure or appear following localized moisture, chemical, heat, or surface-contact events. Evaluation focuses on distribution pattern, exposure history, environmental conditions, and correlation with laminate construction characteristics before origin is determined. Discoloration must be differentiated from gloss variation, surface residue, moisture-related swelling, and decorative-layer irregularities that may alter appearance without true pigment change. See also Gloss Variation, Color Lot Variation, and Laminate Problems for broader context.
