Stop Mark (Carpet)
Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide
Summary
Stop marks are manufacturing-related appearance conditions created during the tufting process when the tufting machine momentarily stops and restarts. If the backing advances slightly during the stoppage, normal tuft placement is disrupted and a visible band forms across the carpet width. The condition may be evaluated alongside related appearance conditions such as shift marks, shearing defects, and shading, which may appear similar but differ in underlying mechanism. Stop marks are present prior to installation and are permanent in nature.
The condition affects appearance only and does not indicate damage, durability loss, or structural weakness.
