AATCC TM164 Colorfastness to Nitrogen Dioxide (Carpet & Textiles)
Floor Detective® Laboratory Testing Reference
Summary
AATCC TM164 Colorfastness to Nitrogen Dioxide is a laboratory test used to evaluate the resistance of dyed or colored textile materials to color change caused by exposure to nitrogen dioxide gas. Nitrogen dioxide exposure is commonly associated with combustion byproducts, atmospheric pollutants, vehicle emissions, gas-fired appliances, and other air-contaminant sources rather than physical wear. The test exposes textile specimens to controlled nitrogen dioxide conditions and evaluates the amount of color change after exposure. Results provide comparative information regarding susceptibility to fume fading, yellowing, fading, or discoloration under laboratory conditions. The test evaluates colorfastness to nitrogen dioxide only and does not independently determine manufacturing defect, installation quality, maintenance conditions, warranty responsibility, or field service life.
