Velcro Roller Test for Carpet Fuzzing Evaluation

Floor Detective® Laboratory Testing Reference

Summary

The Velcro Roller Test is a laboratory screening procedure used by some testing laboratories to evaluate the tendency of certain carpet constructions, particularly loop pile products, to develop fuzzing-related appearance changes. The procedure uses a Velcro-covered roller that is typically passed 10 times forward and 10 times backward across the carpet surface to simulate snagging and fiber-disturbance forces associated with fuzzing complaints. Results are comparative in nature and are commonly used to assist in evaluations involving filament slippage, loose fibers, yarn disturbance, and fuzzing-related concerns. The procedure is not known to be governed by a published ASTM, AATCC, ISO, or CRI test standard, and interpretation of results typically relies upon manufacturer expectations and laboratory experience.
