Fiber Degradation Evaluation (Textile Flooring)

Floor Detective® Laboratory Testing Reference

Summary

Fiber Degradation Evaluation is a laboratory assessment used to determine whether carpet or textile fibers have weakened, embrittled, or deteriorated due to environmental exposure, chemical interaction, heat, ultraviolet light, oxidation, or other aging mechanisms. The evaluation may include accelerated aging, microscopic examination, tensile comparison, and other laboratory procedures to compare affected and unaffected specimens. Results provide comparative information to assist investigations involving premature wear, fuzzing, shedding, fiber fracture, discoloration, or loss of durability. Laboratory findings should be interpreted together with product construction, service history, environmental exposure, and field observations.
