ASTM D6119 Contract Walker Appearance Retention Test (Carpet)
Floor Detective® Laboratory Testing Reference
Summary
ASTM D6119 Contract Walker testing evaluates carpet appearance retention under controlled, simulated foot-traffic conditions. The procedure uses a mechanical walking device to repeatedly traverse carpet specimens, producing texture change, matting, crushing, and appearance alteration similar to those that may develop during service. The test is commonly used to compare the ability of carpet products to maintain their original appearance after repeated traffic exposure. Results provide comparative performance information but do not independently establish manufacturing defect, warranty responsibility, or actual field service life.
