Summary
Travertine is a naturally voided limestone formed when mineral deposits trap gases during stone formation. These voids are a defining characteristic of the material and may be visible, partially filled, or concealed beneath the finished surface depending on how the stone was fabricated and finished. Travertine may be supplied with open voids or with factory-applied fillers designed to create a more uniform appearance. During service, concealed voids may occasionally become exposed as thin stone shells fracture or as fillers wear or dislodge. Evaluation focuses on distinguishing normal stone behavior and
