Summary

Bond loss in tile installations occurs when ceramic, porcelain, or natural stone tile no longer maintains effective adhesion to the bonding mortar, the supporting substrate, or within the mortar layer itself. The condition reflects separation occurring somewhere within the bonded assembly rather than a single isolated material failure. Bond loss may become visible shortly after installation or develop gradually during service as normal building movement, environmental exposure, or concentrated loading places stress on the bonded system.
