Summary
Seam overlap is an installation-origin condition that occurs when one trimmed carpet edge rides over the opposing edge during seam assembly rather than meeting edge-to-edge. This creates a raised or bulky seam profile that disrupts surface continuity. The condition forms at the time of installation and is confined to the seam line. It may be confused with seam peaking or dark or light line at the seam, which may present with visible seam irregularity but differ in underlying mechanism. Seam overlap affects seam appearance and texture but does not independently establish a manufacturing defect.
