Latex Encapsulation / Penetration (Carpet)

Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide

Summary

Latex encapsulation and penetration are manufacturing-related construction characteristics that occur when carpet backing latex surrounds and migrates into yarn bundles during tufting (yarn insertion into the backing) and secondary backing application. Encapsulation describes how latex wraps around the yarn bundle at the primary backing (first woven layer) interface, while penetration describes how deeply latex enters the yarn bundle and binds individual filaments together. These characteristics influence tuft security and long-term appearance performance. They are established during manufacturing and are not
