Low Grout Joints (Tile)

Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide

Summary

Low grout joints describe a condition in which grout finishes recessed below the surface edge of adjacent tiles rather than flush or near-flush with the tile surface. The condition commonly develops when grout is removed from the joint during cleanup, when joints are not fully packed during installation, or when weak grout gradually erodes during service. In some installations, minor uniform recession may also occur as grout cures and loses moisture. Depending on severity, recessed grout joints may affect appearance, cleanability, edge protection, and long-term joint durability. Proper evaluation focuses on joint depth consistency, grout integrity, distribution patterns, and overall installation conditions before conclusions are formed.
