Summary

Filtration soiling, also known as draft marking, is an appearance condition that occurs when pressure differentials (air pressure imbalances between spaces) drive airborne particulates through carpeted areas, causing the carpet to function as a passive air filter. Fine dust, soot, and oily vapors become deposited within the pile as air moves along structural gaps, seams, and penetrations.
