Summary

A bad mend, also referred to as a manufacturing mend, is a localized appearance irregularity resulting from a yarn repair performed during carpet production. The condition appears as a small, visually distinct area where pile height, density, yarn orientation, color, or texture differs from the surrounding material. Manufacturing mends are present at the time of manufacture and may be evaluated alongside conditions such as texture variation or appearance retention when assessing appearance differences.
