Soiling (Carpet)

Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide

Summary

Carpet soiling is an appearance-related condition in which foreign substances accumulate on fiber surfaces, altering visual appearance and reducing perceived cleanliness. Soil is introduced primarily through normal occupancy, foot traffic, airborne contaminants, oils, residues, and environmental exposure, with most consisting of dry particulate matter tracked into the installation over time. Some appearance changes resemble soil but actually result from fiber abrasion, pile distortion, or surface wear rather than removable contamination. The condition may be evaluated alongside related appearance conditions such as Traffic Lane Gray or Accelerated Soiling, although each develops through different mechanisms and presents differently during evaluation. See also Carpet Problems for broader context.
