Plasticizer migration is a material-related condition in which plasticizers (flexibility additives) within PVC-backed carpet or adjacent PVC-containing materials move into nearby materials or interfaces over time. These compounds are not permanently bonded within the material and may migrate under certain conditions, particularly where moisture, alkalinity, heat, or prolonged contact are present.
