Pile Reversal Within the Roll (Carpet)

Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide

Summary

Pile reversal within the roll is an appearance condition in which areas of carpet inside a single continuous roll exhibit opposing pile lay direction prior to installation. When pile orientation changes, light reflects differently from yarn tips and sides, producing visible light and dark shading that reverses when viewed from opposite directions. The condition develops during post-manufacturing handling, winding, staging, or processing influences rather than installation-direction error and may be confused with side match, shading, or pooling conditions. Pile reversal within the roll affects reflectance only and does not involve dye variation, fiber damage, backing failure, or structural deterioration. See also Pile Reversal, Side Match, and Carpet Problems for broader context.
