Summary

Pile reversal within the roll is an appearance condition in which areas of carpet inside a single, continuous roll exhibit opposing pile lay direction. When pile orientation changes, light reflects differently from yarn tips and sides, producing visible light and dark shading that reverses when viewed from opposite directions. The condition develops during post-manufacturing roll handling or processing rather than from installation direction error. It does not involve dye variation, fiber damage, or backing defects.
