Summary

Heat weld seam failure in resilient sheet flooring occurs when the thermally fused joint between adjacent sheets does not maintain continuity or structural integrity. During installation, resilient sheet seams are mechanically grooved and filled with a compatible welding rod that is fused into the seam using controlled heat. When the weld does not properly bond to both sheet edges, separation, cracking, or release of the weld rod may occur. These conditions may develop shortly after installation or later during service as traffic, temperature change, or floor movement places stress on the seam. Evaluation requires correlation of
