Summary
Efflorescence and subflorescence occur when soluble salts within tile or stone assemblies are transported by moisture and crystallize as water evaporates. Efflorescence refers to visible salt deposits forming on the surface of grout joints, tile edges, or porous tile and stone materials. Subflorescence occurs when salt crystallization develops beneath the surface within pores or voids of the material.
