Summary

Yellowing or discoloration in resilient sheet vinyl flooring is a color-change condition involving amber, yellow, brown, or uneven tonal shift caused by oxidation, chemical interaction, contaminant migration, thermal exposure, or transfer staining. Discoloration may originate at the surface, within the wear layer, or beneath the flooring system depending on mechanism. Distribution pattern, exposure history, and boundary definition are often important diagnostic indicators. Some conditions involve removable surface residue or finish buildup, while others represent permanent material alteration within the flooring system.
