Pet Urine Damage (Carpet)

Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide

Summary

Pet urine damage is a use-related condition that occurs when animal urine penetrates carpet pile and migrates into backing systems, cushion, or underlying substrates. As urine ages, bacterial activity converts urea into alkaline compounds that may chemically affect carpet components and contribute to odor, staining, or backing deterioration. The condition may involve discoloration, persistent odor, localized distortion, or backing degradation that contributes to Delamination. Pet urine damage develops from in-service contamination exposure and does not reflect manufacturing or installation performance. See also Delamination, Bleach Spots, and Carpet Problems for broader context.
