Maintenance Practices (Wood & Laminate Flooring)
Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide
Summary
Maintenance practices influence the appearance, durability, and long-term performance of wood and laminate flooring systems. Product-specific maintenance guidance is intended to reduce soil accumulation, control moisture exposure, and preserve surface appearance during normal use. Maintenance may reduce risk of damage but does not eliminate normal wear, surface aging, or environmental response over time. Wood and laminate flooring systems respond differently to moisture because of differences in construction, core composition, finish systems, and dimensional behavior. Solid and engineered wood products may expand, contract, or distort as moisture conditions change, while laminate flooring cores may swell when moisture penetrates seams or edges. Evaluation of maintenance-related concerns requires correlation between cleaning methods, moisture exposure history, traffic conditions, environmental influence, and observed material response. The presence of wear, swelling, or surface change alone does not independently establish manufacturing defect or maintenance failure without broader flooring-system evaluation. See also Water Damage, Chair Protectors, and Hardwood Floor Problems for broader context.
