Summary

Carpet seam not sealed is an installation-related condition in which trimmed carpet edges are joined without proper application of seam adhesive. In glue-down installations, seam adhesive is intended to encapsulate and bond the cut backing layers as seam edges are joined while the adhesive remains transferable. When seam sealing is omitted or applied inconsistently, exposed backing layers may become vulnerable to edge ravel, separation, and progressive seam instability. The condition may be evaluated alongside related seam conditions such as seam sealer residue and seam overlap, which may present with seam irregularities but differ in underlying mechanism.
