Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide

Summary

Scratches, dents, and impact damage in hardwood flooring are appearance-related conditions caused by abrasion, concentrated loading, sliding contact, or sudden force acting on the floor surface. These conditions may affect only the finish layer or may extend into the wood fibers depending on contact geometry, force intensity, species hardness, finish properties, and environmental conditions. Surface marking commonly becomes more visible under reflective lighting, darker stain colors, or higher-gloss finishes. The presence of scratches, dents, or impact marks alone does not independently establish manufacturing defect, installation failure, or flooring-system instability. Proper evaluation focuses on mark type, depth, distribution, contact mechanism, and consistency with use patterns. See also Early Wear Pet Damage, Janka Hardness Rating, and Hardwood Floor Problems for broader context.
