Bubbles in Finish
Finish Bubbling / Air Entrapment (Wood Finish)
Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide
Summary
Finish bubbling, sometimes referred to as air entrapment, is an appearance-related condition in which raised bubbles, blisters, or small voids become visible within the cured surface film of a wood floor finish. The condition develops when air, vapor, solvent, or gases become trapped within the coating during application or early curing and cannot fully escape before the surface sets. Bubbling may appear as intact domed blisters, fine micro-texture, or irregular surface distortion where bubbles partially collapse during cure. Visibility often increases under directional or reflective lighting where surface texture becomes more noticeable. The condition is limited to the finish film and does not represent structural damage to the wood flooring material itself. Finish bubbling reflects coating behavior, application conditions, and environmental interaction rather than wood substrate failure or flooring-system structural deficiency. See also Bubbles in Finish Hardwood, Fish Eyes, and Hardwood Floor Problems for broader context.
