Summary

Crawling is a finish-film application condition in which wet coating retracts from portions of the floor surface, leaving thin, incomplete, or uncoated areas. The behavior occurs during finish application when the coating fails to wet and flow uniformly across the substrate. Crawling reflects surface interaction and finish-film dynamics rather than failure of the wood flooring material itself.
