Summary
Tension lines are manufacturing-related appearance variations that run in the length direction of carpet and appear as light or dark streaks. The condition develops during tufting when slight differences in yarn feed tension affect loop position, surface reflectivity, and adjacent row appearance. The pattern typically remains consistent and does not reverse with normal viewing direction changes. Tension lines primarily affect appearance uniformity and do not independently indicate fiber damage, backing failure, or loss of structural integrity.
