Seam Not Sealed (Carpet)
Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide
Summary
Seam not sealed is an installation-related condition in which trimmed carpet edges are joined without proper seam adhesive application or adequate edge encapsulation. In glue-down carpet installations, seam adhesive is intended to stabilize and protect exposed backing layers as adjoining carpet sections are assembled while adhesive remains transferable. When seam sealing is omitted, inconsistent, or insufficient, exposed backing layers may become vulnerable to edge ravel, yarn release, separation, and progressive seam instability over time. The condition develops during installation and remains confined to seam locations rather than the open field of the carpet. See also Seam Sealer Residue, Seam Overlap, and Carpet Problems for broader context.
