Summary

Surface chipping in ceramic tile is the localized loss of glaze or surface material that does not extend through the full thickness of the tile body. This condition is generally appearance-related and most commonly associated with mechanical contact, abrasion, or localized impact occurring before, during, or after installation. In some cases, surface chipping may also be influenced by inherent glaze or surface characteristics related to manufacturing or handling. Surface chipping does not inherently indicate a manufacturing defect and must be evaluated based on chip characteristics, distribution, timing, and contextual use conditions. The presence or absence of related installation or service indicators is considered as part of the overall assessment.
