Summary

Seam-related dark or light line is an appearance condition where a visible band forms directly above a carpet seam. The condition occurs when pile direction or orientation changes in the seam area due to heat and movement during hot-melt seam construction. The band is typically centered over the seam and is often similar in width on both sides of the seam tape beneath the backing. Observable effects may include shading that may be confused with shading or crushing. The appearance typically reverses from dark to light when viewed from opposite directions, indicating a pile-direction effect rather than true color variation.
