Floor Detective® Claims and Conditions Guide

Summary

Wool is a natural protein-based carpet fiber with performance characteristics that differ significantly from synthetic materials. Its behavior is influenced by moisture exposure, maintenance practices, cleaning chemistry, and environmental conditions. Many appearance changes in wool carpets may resemble shading or appearance retention, but reflect inherent fiber properties rather than damage or defect. Wool is hygroscopic and continually exchanges moisture with surrounding air, influencing surface appearance and texture. The fiber is also chemically sensitive, particularly to oxidizing agents and high-alkaline cleaners. Appearance change alone does not independently indicate manufacturing defect and requires evaluation of fiber properties and site conditions.

What You Need to Know

• Wool is a natural protein fiber with properties different from synthetic carpet fibers.
• The fiber absorbs and releases moisture without appearing wet.
• Many visual changes reflect normal fiber behavior rather than defects. ….
