Summary

Underlayment compression, also referred to as support loss, is a laminate flooring condition in which cushioning or foam underlayment materials compress, deform, or lose resiliency over time, reducing uniform support beneath the floating system. Laminate flooring relies on consistent substrate support to maintain mechanical engagement and distribute load across joints. When underlayment materials compress unevenly or exceed their load-bearing capacity, localized deflection may occur under traffic.
