Surface whitening from topical moisture entrapment is an appearance-related laminate flooring condition in which localized cloudy, hazy, or milky discoloration develops when surface moisture becomes trapped beneath non-breathable objects such as plant containers, saucers, trays, or rubber-backed materials. When evaporation is restricted, moisture remains in contact with the surface and alters the optical properties of the wear layer or decorative interface, creating a lightened area that often matches the object footprint.
