Summary

Expansion restriction, commonly referred to as pinning, occurs when a floating laminate floor is prevented from moving as designed. Laminate systems expand and contract in response to temperature and relative humidity changes. When that movement is restrained at walls, trim, cabinetry, or other fixed points, compressive stress develops within the floor plane.
