About Me
Based in Connecticut, Williams & Associates, LLC is a commercial and residential flooring inspection firm performing independent, third-party inspections and failure analysis on finished flooring. I conduct inspections in the following locations:

I have been in the flooring industry for over 40 years. I started in 1983 as an installer and later ran my own contracting work, and I have spent the decades since on the manufacturing side with companies including Laticrete, Bostik, and Dal-Tile — writing and teaching the installation side of these products, training installers and distributor personnel, and standing behind the warranties when jobs went wrong.
I am an FCITS Certified Master Flooring Inspector (#2029), certified in failure analysis across both hard and soft surface flooring — resilient, hardwood, laminate, carpet, and tile.
Knowing both sides of the business is what makes the difference in an inspection. I understand how these products are manufactured and specified, and I understand how they are installed — which allows me to accurately identify the cause of a failure, whether it stems from a product defect, an installation error, the substrate, or environmental conditions. I am retained for the inspection alone — I do not sell the repair, the replacement, or the installation, and I hold no financial interest in the outcome of a claim. My goal is to provide thorough, unbiased, and reliable inspections that give my clients the clarity and confidence they need to make informed decisions.
Work Experience & Past Projects
Over the course of my 40-plus year career I have held a variety of roles with several of the flooring industry's largest and most respected companies, including Laticrete, Bostik, and Dal-Tile — territory sales representative, independent manufacturers' representative, national accounts manager, and Director of Sales with responsibility for national revenue, pricing, and channel strategy. I began as an installer and am also a former flooring contractor.
That work put me on both sides of nearly every flooring system in the market. I have written and taught installation training, worked directly with installers and distributor personnel in the field, and handled warranty and claims issues from the manufacturer's side — which means I have seen how these products are specified and sold, how they are put down, and what happens when something goes wrong.
Inspection Work
I perform third-party inspections for flooring manufacturers and their warranty claims departments, distributors, retailers, contractors and builders, insurance adjusters, and homeowners. Assignments range from single-family residential claims to multi-unit and commercial projects, and include:
- Resilient flooring — LVT, LVP, sheet vinyl, VCT, rubber and specialty resilient
- Hardwood and engineered wood — cupping, crowning, gapping, buckling, finish and appearance issues
- Laminate
- Broadloom carpet and carpet tile — wrinkling, buckling, stretch-in, seam and delamination failure, appearance retention
- Bond and adhesive failure, slab moisture testing and moisture-related failure, substrate flatness and preparation deficiencies
- Commercial pre-installation site surveys and substrate condition assessments
Every inspection is documented with photographs, field measurements and test data, the applicable industry standards and the manufacturer's own written installation instructions cited by name, and a clearly stated conclusion on cause.
