Summary

Top cuts are a physical damage condition involving partial or complete severing of carpet face yarns caused by blade contact with the pile surface. The condition most commonly occurs when additional carpet or materials are cut directly on top of installed carpet, allowing knife pressure to partially sever underlying yarns without fully penetrating the backing.
